Toggle“Apple launched a new 4-inch iPhone named as “iPhone-SE” on 21st, March 2016.”
Since the launch of the 4.7 inch iPhone 6 and 5.5 inch iPhone 6 Plus in September of 2014, there have been rumors of Apple introducing a new 4-inch device for the people who want something more affordable and smaller in size. The launch of this small screen iPhone-SE is in the hope to attract those customers who don’t like large screen smartphones. Despite rumors, no new smartphone was materialized in 2015, but this year, Apple launched a new 4-inch iPhone at an event held on the 21st, April’2016.
IPhone SE is similar to iPhone 5s in shape and size and has the same general dimensions. The device has a slight curvy display. The edges are less dramatic in comparison to the curve displays on Apple’s larger devices.
The iPhone 5SE may be similar to Apple’s large screen devices in terms of performance, but it doesn’t mean that it has all the features of Apple’s flagship devices. iPhone 5SE is likely to have the body of iPhone 5s with internal configuration of iPhone 6s, such as A9 processor with a 12mp camera, that mean, it is a better and more powerful device. iPhone SE has 2GB RAM and only come in 16 GB and 64 GB capacities, with no 128 GB option.
The iPhone 5SE includes the 12-mp camera similar to iPhone 6s but with improved auto-focusing, support for larger panoramas, and the ability to capture Live Photos. The iPhone 5SE doesn’t have 3-D touch feature. It also includes an NFC chip and Touch ID to support “Apple Pay” payment service and latest iPhone features like Bluetooth 4.2, fast 802.11ac WiFi, and VoLTE.
With 32% of market share, iPhone 6 is still one of the most adopted devices, followed by iPhone 5s with market share of 19%.
Almost 33% of the iPhone market belongs to iPhone 5, 5C and 5S. With this, there is a huge opportunity of acceptance of new small screen iPhone in the market. The new device “iPhone SE” is modeled after iPhone 5s and iPhone 6s
According to reports, the iPhone 5s will be discontinued in the market with the release of SE. The device will be available in market within a week of the announcement. iPhone 5s is available in 16GB and 32GB capacities for $450 and $500, respectively. The SE is likely to be available at the same prices, but in 16GB and 64GB capacities only.
However, Apple has launched its new iPhone, but we are still confused that it will impact mobile engagement?
Impact on Mobile Engagement – Predictions
It’s being predicted that a new iPhone SE will have a huge impact on mobile engagement.
1. For starters, a new device comes with the possibility of an app purge. When people buy a new phone, they only download the apps they need frequently or love them, which means many of the apps get left behind and companies lose their opportunity to engage with their users.
2. Secondly, will businesses observe any significant differences in mobile usage due to the smaller screens? Clearly, more number of people prefers to use small screens, as evidenced by the number of iPhone 5S and iPad mini devices still in the current market. And if it’s true, then new iPhone SE is available in market as per the consumers demand. We just need to keep some patience to know whether people will engage more or less.
3. Third and most important, will apps be available for SE i.e., how fast the app will be available in the app store for new smaller screen iPhone? Companies will need to adapt to the new size and tailor their apps so that they can fit the smaller screens. Companies’ skills to modify their mobile experience back to a smaller screen will make a huge difference in terms of user retention.
